These infections can cause diarrhea, anemia, reduced weight gain, alteration to productive-reproductive parameters and death of the animals. Currently, the main control mechanism against NGI in sheep is based on the administration of anthelmintics, however the excessive and inappropriate use of these drugs has led to increased resistance in parasites and the presence of chemical residues in food products such as milk and meat, which leads to negative economic impacts favoring the abandonment of livestock activity and also representing a risk to public health and environmental pollution.
